I have to replace two existing fan/light bath fans in two bathrooms in a single-family residence. One of the fans is located in a shower stall. Since they're existing and I'm not extending the circuit, I won't need AFCI protection, correct? For the one located in the shower I'll have to make sure it is listed to be in the shower, and add gfci protection for it, correct?

In MA we have this amendment

210.12(B). Replace the parent text and list items with the following:All 120-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere branch circuits supplying outlets or devicesinstalled in dwelling units shall be protected by any of the means described in 210.12(A)(1)through (A)(6).

Wow, someone went above code. Bet someone's pocket got bigger!
Of all things that one could go above code on, AFCI is NOT one of them!

What you are doing is not adding a branch circuit. Also, the only place that I know off of the top of my head, that requires AFCI protection with a replacement is 406.4(D)(4) for receptacles (IMO, the worst rule in the codebook). So, no AFCI required, but GFCI is required because every exhaust fan that I have ever seen has the words, "suitable for use directly over the tub or shower if given GFCI protection" (or similar), so by Article 110.3(B), the GFCI is required.
