Re: bath rec

The NEC only requires that there be an receptacle within 36" of the sink. This allows for one to be placed inbetween both sinks if it is within 36"

With that said the mirror installers might not like you or the builder or home owner might not want to pay for the mirror to be cut but other wise this is not a code issue.

Here's the code on this:
210.52(D)

Re: bath rec

The code defines "receptacle outlet" which is what 210.52(D) requires as "An outlet where one or more receptacles are installed". So in theory at least, a single receptacle would be compliant.

Try telling that to the homeowner. :D

Re: bath rec

Maybe compliant but not very convenient. Even only one duplex can be less convenient these days and likely to get even less so in the future as we add more and more electrical appliances to enhance our lives.

Re: bath rec

one receptacle and 2 basins ,not in my opinion.a duplex would be code compliant 1 receptacle for each basin.210.52 D

Re: bath rec

The code doesn't say one for each basin. It just says one receptacle within 3' of each basin. If you install a single receptacle and it is within 3' feet of two basins, you still meet the requirement of the section.

Re: bath rec

Bryan you are correct it does not require a seperate receptacle for each basin as far as wording goes.Butif there is only a single device and it is in use at one basin there is not another available for the second basin. That would violate 210.52 D IMHO :D

Does anyone even _make_ a single-GFCI receptacle for use in bathrooms with only one sink?? ;)

Re: bath rec

Pass & Seymour makes a model 1594 device. Single GFI with choose of night light, 1 single pole switch, or 2 single pole switches. Available in ivory, white, or lt. almond.
