Is there anything in the code book that requires you to put a bathroom exhaust fan and the light on the same switch. Whether it be residential or commercial. Thanks in advance for any help.
Michael
That is a building code issue. If you are installing a dwelling unit bathroom with no windows, the light and (required) exhaust fan will be required (by the building code) to be on the same switch.
Pierre, that might be a NY code. The IRC states that if your bathroom does not have 1.5 square feet of opening you are required to have mechanical exhaust. This can be intermitent (switched)at a rate of 50cfm, or constant at 20cfm. Hope this helps.
Pierre...I must add that for an electrician your knowledge of the building code is quite impressive.
Pierre, we have the same building code here in MA, a bathroom with no window gets a fan switched with the light.
They must listen to the noise of the fan while doing anything because they are too stupid  to decide for themselves when to run the fan. (Or so the code makers think)
It has been a while since I have done dwellings so this could have changed.

Thank You for the compliment. I am also an instructor in a small training center that I have started. So I am deligent in finding as much info for the 'men' as I can. I am in constant contact with the state building department (they know me quite well these days).
As far as the reference I made it could well be a local code. It is enforced in this and other jurisdictions around here.
As a matter of fact, when I opened my center the bathroom has a single switch for the fan and light. It is a good thing, we can't hear them and they can't hear us.
In my area any bathroom either with a window or without one must have a bath exhust fan installed. There is no provision for them to be switched with a light......
our area requires one if the bathroom does not have a window. lights are mandatory. what gets me is these ductless types. nothing like sitting in the recycled stench of humanity... especially after a good night at Taco Bell.
