I have a small job which requires me to replace receptacle in bathroom of mobile home. It is the first point of power entering bathroom. So very easily could use it to protect rest of bathroom, but I do not know how rest of old mobile home is wired. So if I do feed threw GFCI the other wiring could make a lot on tripping on GFCI and this circuit feeds other rooms. :(

Re: Bathroom GFCI receptacle?

You need to check the entire circut.

Mobile homes have there own Code Article, and it is very possible that things such as the receptacle for the heat tape comes off of the load side of your GFCI receptacle.

Re: Bathroom GFCI receptacle?

ok if you do run into #14 wire and find a 20 amp breaker please change it to a 15.It depends on what code was used when and where it was built. No reason to protect more than the bath outlet on gfci.Be carefull some protect out door outlets along with the bath. You will find that towns that mfg. mobiles usually run on old code.Keeps them employed. And yes someone likely did put a outlet in a shower.

Re: Bathroom GFCI receptacle?

Just replace the plug using a gfi . The plug in the bathroom is the only thing that needs to be on that gfi. YOU can also amprobe the circuit

I would check but I think you will find that any outside receptacls will also be on the circuit and if there is another bath room it might be on it also.

Re: Bathroom GFCI receptacle?

Mobile home work can be a nightmare :D Self contained devices etc.Once you jump in the water it either sink or swim.Examine what you are going to get into before you make aa quote ;)

Re: Bathroom GFCI receptacle?

about the recep not permitted in the shower space.
Can you believe someone arguing that it's ok to put there?????
The way I envision it was someone put it there, the inspector called it, the battle began and this code section is the result.
More unfortunate would be that there was an injury or death from a recep in the shower. I hope that was not the case.

Re: Bathroom GFCI receptacle?

Code board consists of insurance company reps manufacturer reps. etc.All involved have a end by the means.Boost profits and minimize pay outs  Calgon take me away :D

Re: Bathroom GFCI receptacle?

"Maybe it should be required that actual field electricians make the code since we have to deal with their requirements on a daily basis!!!"
Any person can make a proposal, you have until Nov 4, 2005 to make a propsal to change the 08 NEC. See the 2008 NEC proposal forum at this site.

Allen, without the code holding us back at times, things that we might not realize are dangerous would get by.

I get a few stupid requests now and then, I am glad I can point to an authoritative third party that says, "I can't do that!" Take the heat off of us, too. ;)

Re: Bathroom GFCI receptacle?

George all i am saying is that we as qualified electricians would never do an install that IMHO would put anyone in danger :D I started in 73 and learn every day ;)
