I was asked to estimate a job where the main panel is in the bathroom and they want it relocated. Can I use the existing panel as a j-box and leave it in the bathroom as long at the cover is screwed closed?

I find it interesting that no one has mentioned the branch circuit extension requirements for AFCI protection as stated in 210.12(B). Depending on what NEC code cycle is involved. The AHJ would probably have some say in what is actually required. I agree with the comments about making a good place to hang a picture or a mirror, but might be a deal breaker if was forced to spend the money on AFCI protection unexpectedly.

It's not unexpected. In estimating the cost of the panel move I took into account that many of the circuits would now require AFCI breakers and priced accordingly.

FYI, under the 2014 if the branch circuits are not extended more than 6' moving the panel, then AFCI is not required.

Dennis, our Chief Old Fart....er, I mean Mod......got that passed.
