My question is, if the wash machine is located in the bathroom can it be on the bathroom branch circuit, I believe NEC 210.11(C)(3)exception allows this, but I want to be sure. It is a basic washmachine, in a single family dwelling. The dryer is 220v

Re: bathroom/laundry branch circuit

While one part of the code allows it you would still have to provide a laundry outlet. :D

Re: bathroom/laundry branch circuit

A washing machine installed in a bathroom and supplied by the bathroom circuit using 210.11(C)(3) exception will not relieve 210.11(C)(2) and 210.52(F).
210.11(C) (2) Laundry Branch Circuits. In addition to the number of branch circuits required by other parts of this section, at least one additional 20-ampere branch circuit shall be provided to supply the laundry receptacle outlet(s) required by 210.52(F).
The exception found 210.11(C)(3) refers to 210.23(A)(1) and (A)(2). Taking a close look at 210.23(A) we find:
210.23 (A) 15- and 20-Ampere Branch Circuits. A 15- or 20-ampere branch circuit shall be permitted to supply lighting units or other utilization equipment, or a combination of both, and shall comply with 210.23(A)(1) and (A)(2).

Exception: The small appliance branch circuits, laundry branch circuits, and bathroom branch circuits required in a dwelling unit(s) by 210.11(C)(1), (C)(2), and (C)(3) shall supply only the receptacle outlets specified in that section.
This exception tells us again that those circuits (bathroom and laundry) must supply only the outlets as specified in 210.11(C) one through three.

A laundry circuit and receptacle is required to be installed 210.11 (C)(2) and 210.52(F) and is repeated again in 210.23(A) exception.

I suppose that a washing machine could be plugged in about anywhere that is convenient. I will never forget the first electric washing machine we ever had. We plugged it in on the back porch. It was the only receptacle that wasn?t being used and it was an adapter that screwed it at the porch light. I hated having to tote water on wash day. Pack clean water up the hill and the dirty water was packed out to the hog pen.

All of this is just to say that I agree with Iwire
:)
Editied for spelling :D :D

Re: bathroom/laundry branch circuit

I can remember how happy Mom was when she first saw our new (used but new to her) washing machine. The words still echo through my memories, ?son we will still use the black kettle for cooking soap. Now get down to the creek and fetch some water.?

Those fond memories of toting 10 gallons of water each time a quarter mile up the side of the mountain, 10 gallons to wash, 10 gallons to rinse and 10 more gallons for the final rinse. The first couple of times we only rinsed the cloths once but it didn?t take long to learn that as soon as you got to sweating the lye in the homemade soap kicked in so we learned to rinse twice.

I will save the story of our first electric cook stove for later. The funny part of that story is that the house wasn?t wired for a range. Mom hated that electric cook stove because it didn?t have a water tank on it. How was she to keep hot water with no water tank?

:)

Re: bathroom/laundry branch circuit

Why would you want to supply the washer/ laundry outlet(s) from the required circuit to supply bathroom receptacle outlet(s) ?

210.52(d) requires a receptacle outlet within 3 feet of the outside edge of each basin , located on the wall or side or face of the cabinet not more than 12 inches below the counter top.

The Branch circuit required by 210.11(c) (3) is to serve the receptacle(s) required bt 210.52(d), and such circuits shall have no other outlets.

It does not say that a bathroom can have no other receptacle outlets or that all circuits in a bathroom supplying outlets be required to be 20 amp.
