Bathroom light switch

I know that the outlets need to be GFCI when installed near the sink but my buddy keeps telling me the light switch near the door must also be on a GFCI protected circuit and I just can't find that in the NEC book. I realize it would make everything safer but is it REQUIRED is the question.

I should add that all 125 volt 15 and 20 amp receptacles installed in bathrooms are required to have GFCI protection regardless of how near or far they are from the sink.

I knew the outlets had to be GFCI protected but was worried I was messing up when it came to putting in the light switch. Thanks for the help.

Have a little fun with your buddy and invite him to show you where it says that switches in bathrooms must have GFCI protection. You could always make it interesting and lay a little wager on it. :D

You may want to take a look at 210.8.

Jeff,
Sometimes I think he couldn't find his backside with a map and a flashlight. But there is the occasional "blind hog found an acorn" bit of knowledge that he sometimes seems to have. Just enough to keep you guessing if he is messing with you or is serious.
