Bathroom receptacles

What are the placement limits for a GFI receptacle in proximity to a bathtub?

This is for a New Residential home in california.

I'm sure it can't. I was asking if there is a distance that it must be from a bathtub. Do you know?

Other than the limitation Ryan has pointed out the GFCI can be right next to the tub.

The receptacle can't be in the "bathtub space". Are you checking up on a installation? What is a field auditor (your profile)?

Go to the outside wall of the tub. Draw a line straight up to the ceiling. Recep can be anywhere outside that line. This is per 1999 NEC, I'm not sure what the 2002 will change.

The 99' and 02' restriction is identical, they are just in different sections. (99':410-57(c), 02':406.8(C))

I believe the 2005 will add a change. It may state, "receptacles shall not be installed within or directly over the bathtub or shower stall."

This doesn't change the particular question at hand.
