Havnt looked in my 2020 yet, assuming it’s still the same not sure if I would ever feel good about such a install of outlet and or switch within the 3ft area of the rim of tub or shower.

Any good reasons behind it? Only thing I can think of is if it wasn’t there, someone could be apt to grab an extension cord and end up using a non-GFCI outlet from somewhere else.

Actually it has changed in the 2020

406.9(C) Bathtub and Shower Space.
Receptacles shall not be installed within a zone measured 900 mm (3 ft) horizontally and 2.5 m (8 ft) vertically from the top of the bathtub rim or shower stall threshold. The identified zone is all-encompassing and shall include the space directly over the tub or shower stall.

Exception: In bathrooms with less than the required zone the receptacle(s) shall be permitted to be installed opposite the bathtub rim or shower stall threshold on the farthest wall within the room.

I think it's dumb to not include the area from the tub rim down to the floor.
You are correct. It does somewhat dilute the rule. Just means you have to lean over the tub rim a bit more to plug the device in :)

So this is new for 2020. Everything in the picture except the wall sconce was ok in 2017
No. There was no change in the rule for lighting fixtures as found in 410. 10(D). Just the structure of the section was changed, but the rule was not actually changed. The prohibited locations for luminaires is now first level subdivision (A) and the requirement for damp rated fixtures is now first level subdivision (B). The wall sconce is permitted in both editions of the code.

The change for 2020 was in 406.9(C) which applied the same restrictions to receptacles as 410.10(D) applies to luminaires.

Ok, so the wall sconce is allowed because it is listed wet or damp location (didn't look to close at the sconce), but the switch/duplex was ok in 2017 but not in 2020, right? Haven't heard about this change, could be an issue in a small bathroom.
