I live in Baltimore, MD and trying to go to school to add some book smarts to my 8 years of experience. Does anyone know of a school near that will not cost me $15,000 and only get 1 to 2 years.

If I were to join an Apprentiship program would my pay go back to a helper? I think the answer is yes.

Thank you in advanced. I am new here and hope I have not broken any rules.

In Virginia you can go to the ABC school and pay for it yourself. Not sure about MD, check ABC association builders and contractors

thanks for the reply. The last mechanic that trained me went there and suggested that school to me. I have been searching the internet but have not found one that has a school near here. He actually told me that the school was 5 min. from where I live but it is not there.

I went through the ABC apprenticeship. (Baltimore chapter) An old helper of mine is going through the IEC program, but I really don't know the details, although it sounded like a good program.

I graduated in '96, so my info is a little out of date. It used to be held at Johnnycake Middle School 1st, 2nd, and 4th years, and 3rd year at Western VoTech. The ABC office was on York rd not far from Northern Parkway.

I don't think your boss should drop your pay just because you are trying to improve yourself.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

As long as they are willing to sign your OJT (On The Job Training) forms, I don't foresee a problem.

Looks like I am going to school. I contacted that school via email on Friday past (8-29-08). I got a response today (9-2-08). Saying they need the name of company and the address and they will mail a form to the company. Then I need to apply in person and there I go. I wonder if I have enough to to sign up. I'll find out 2morrow.
