Does the NEC specify how often the electrolyte in storage batteries checked and maintained.

If your firm or you are responsible for battery maintenance please take the time to read the manufacture's literature, and the IEEE standards for stationary batteries. There is more to battery maintenance than checking the electrolyte.
And add only deionized or distilled water, to the mid mark on the jar, not the top mark.
