Subject: battery operated stand by sump pump (amps)installation

I need to extend the conection distance between source(12vdc battery/charger)& pump/float switch.
The reason for this is due to the sump pit being next to the Gas water heater. Bryant water heater
company says battey is an ignitable source. Johnson controls mfg. of battery says that the heater is also. Bryant says get battery out of room . Note basement is one big room. Johnson controls says move battery as far away from water heater as possible. For legal reason Johnson controls won't say how far is safe. Johnson controls says to raise battery above flame of water heater as well & unspecified distance sugestion. Back up pump system is mfg by Little Giant. Wire size is 16 gage in set up. Will using larger gage cause heat between battery & pump during applicaion.
What type of wire 16 gage 2 cable would be safe to run between joists in the basement? Was unable to find something simular to Romex at this gage level.

Thanks

Re: battery operated sump pumps

saturn, Larger wire will run cooler.

I do not know how far you are planing on extending this or what the load is passing through this cable.

However at voltages as low as 12 volts, voltage drop becomes a significant issue.

If this wiring can safely be extended you may need to use a larger wire to prevent to much voltage drop.

If you can provided the load in amps passing through the cable and the length you want to extend the cable we can help with the wire size needed.

What do you inspect?
