i went to trim out a house recently and discovered that several door swings had been changed from the original plan. now there are a cuople of switches located behind doors. i was wondering if there is some kind of battery powered remote switch system available ? both areas would take extensive remodel work to move location. any other suggestions?

The orange and/or blue stores should carry what is called a wireless switch extender. It includes a transmitter that sticks on the wall and a receiver that replaces the existing switch. The single switch effectively becomes a 3-way pair.
