AFAIK there is no distance limit. But the system design should give you a maximum voltage drop over the battery circuit and you can use that to find the maximum distance for any selected wire size that meets or exceeds the ampacity requirements.
The conductors should also be protected by an overcurrent device of some sort, as close to the battery bank as possible.
