Can I install a main breaker panel in a bead room. inspector says no. I say yes. I can't a code article that says no.

Yes, we sometimes put them behind the door. For the record you did mean bedroom?

if you put on any wall, not in the closet, it should be tough...?

That's not quite correct. I've installed them in a walk-in closets where the door opened in and there was a wall behind it. In all cases I had at least 3' of working clearance (with the door closed) and there was no possibility of clothing or storage anywhere near it.

Here is a code section to look at that may help

and electrical maintenance are provided by the building
management and where these are under continuous building
management supervision, the branch-circuit overcurrent devices
supplying any guest rooms or guest suites without permanent

only to authorized management personnel.

(C) Not Exposed to Physical Damage. Overcurrent devices
shall be located where they will not be exposed to physical
damage.
Informational Note: See 110.11, Deteriorating Agents.
(D) Not in Vicinity of Easily Ignitible Material. Overcurrent

Thanks. I have been puzzling over what a "bead room" could possibly be. Something from the 60's, maybe? :D

The people we bought our current house from had a room off the garage. About fifteen feet by 6 feet with a workbench along one wall and a glass blowing furnace in the corner. Lots of light.
The wife made glass jewelry and that was the bead room.

Back in the 60's I had a friend who had a bead curtain hanging from the arch between the living room and the room where all the blacklight posters and incense trays were. That was her bead room, I guess. :D

Absolutely, yes you can. You do have to maintain work space, that might be tough.

The bedroom is OK.

The working space clearance will probably be an issue after the inspector leaves. :happyyes::happyyes:

I had an inspection department tell me I couldn't put a main panel in a crawl space. We had a concrete flood (in that area) and plenty( code and more) of head room & working clearance and the AC & water heater unit were there. Well lighted and we were going to close off a portion of the area. I was even gong to used an exterior panel.
They wouldn't back off no matter what so I ended up with the panel in the dinning room.

Some times it's not that easy to deal with inspectors.
