hey all,
I did a search and saw similar q's, but not this one. Okay about me. I Grad high school, grad college, 911 happened, joined the army, earned my freedom, now i need a career. I like my current work, framing, but i don't think i can do it as a career; thinking long-term. I figure, electrical work is just as challenging and rewarding, most of all, i think its something that i can do well into my 40's.
So here's my question to all the smart guys with the knowledge. I understand that there are different types of electricans, mainly constructional and maintinance.
What are the advantages and disadvantages/ limitations of both? and
What is the best way to get started? I want to work, not go to school all day, so should I get a job as a helper and take recommendations for night school course work? In PA what is a fair wage for a helper? how long does it take to get the journeyman (I ask this becuase I would like to know about how long I should expect to live in the red each month before I can break even).
At some point I would like to have my own small business, I understand that will take at least 5 years. That makes sense, as it will probably take that long to encounter the most common of problems and proper solutions.
I know what u r thinking, u have college, do something else. i cant spend my time in the office and i need the fresh air. i really enjoy making/building things. i look forward to buying a house and completly redoing the inside by myself, tile, stone, carpets, kitchen cabnets, everything. I find that I spend my time reading textbooks on such things. As I see it, I have no place in corprate america.
so help me out, what is the best course of action to establish myself as proficient in your line of work.
thank you and i look forward to reading ur responces.
