Based on 2014 NEC, it depends on more details.

If the cooler is in an area meeting the definition of kitchen, yes.

If the receptacle is within 6 feet of a sink, yes.

Both instances it needs to involve a 15 or 20 amp 120 volt receptacle though, the receptacle is what may require GFCI, not the cooler.

So if the intended receptacle to use is required to be GFCI protected then it is OK to run an extension cord to a receptacle that doesn't require GFCI protection?:blink:

That's why they make these... remember the NEC is for YOUR safety !
