Using Greenlee Hydraulic bender with 5" segment bending shoe, the conduit flateens on the backside of the bend. First time bending 5" aluminum, no problem with ridgid galvanized?

Is this an older model bender with the pump on rollers, if it is you may need h the bending kit for 5" aluminum bending, it will have extra bending spools with it, not the same as rigid shoe and spools.

I believe it's a model 882 the only accessory mention from greenlee is the 5" segment shoe on the ram. I think the spools fit 5" but with the soft aluminum they grab. A roller would probably do the trick.

New at this forum stuff. I don't know if I replied correctly. We used the 5" segment shoe and went 5 deg each shot 3" apart. Starting flattening after second shot. I think we need a roller on the one end. The conduit seems to get caught on the spool. Therefore i think we are just stretching the conduit and it just wants to kink??

You may need to give them a call, and find out if you have the correct rollers in place, we had an older bender not sure of the model number, but when we called they said we needed the roller set for alum. once we set it up, the conduit did not kink or flatten out.

did you try lubricating the pipe where it contacts the shoe and roller? Sometimes these points can dig into the aluminum

When the proper set of rollers, are set up right the conduit does not stick, if it does then look for something else like are the conduit ends draging, and pinching in the feed rollers.

We will be back at it Monday, that's one thing we will try. thanks

We will be trying that Monday. I'm going to have the guy's clean up the spools, they looked a little burred up. Thanks.
