PALMER, BENNIE RAY Bennie R. Palmer of Milwaukie, died peacefully July 28, 2004, while supported by family and friends after a hard fought battle with lung cancer. Bennie was born December 10, 1932, in Wilson, Okla., and married his wife, Lois J. Palmer, 22 years later. Bennie and Lois planned to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary December 24th of this year. Together, Bennie and Lois raised five children, four of whom reside in the Portland area. During his life Bennie served our country while enlisted with the United States Marine Corps as an AV electrician and continued his work as an electrician for the balance of his career through the IBEW Local # 11 and later, as an electrical inspector for the City of Tigard. Survivors include wife, Lois; son, Billy; daughters, Lynda Gentile; Judy P. Adler, and Raelynn P. Rackerby; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, three sisters, and numerous extended family members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oregon Cancer Society in honor of Bennie.

Re: Bennie Ray Palmer

I took the liberty of submitting the following to the ?Guest Book? that is provided (for the benefit of the family) by The Oregonian on-line newspaper:
On behalf of the Moderators and the over 15,000 Members of the Mike Holt NEC Forum, of which Bennie was the single most prolific contributor, I would like to pass on our deepest condolences to his family. When news of Bennie?s passing was posted on the Forum, there was a flood of expressions of sympathy and loss. Most of the members who posted a reaction to the news simply stated that he had helped them learn, that he will be missed, and that our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Bennie brought out the professional in all of us. While many of the younger members are struggling with the ?How do I do this? questions and comments, Bennie offered the ?This is why we do this and this is how it came to be that way? perspective. It was not that we always agreed with his viewpoints, for often we did not, and often it took several exchanges before we each understood what the other was trying to convey. But the fact that he was willing to take the time to share his views, and to explain the basis for his viewpoints, is the reason that he was so well regarded and respected by all members of the Forum.

The NEC Forum is an electronic medium of information exchange, with members all over the country, and indeed all over the world. I find it amazing that Bennie could have touched so many, despite having personally met so few. I suspect, however, that if I had had the honor of knowing him personally, I would not have been amazed.

Re: Bennie Ray Palmer

Maybe the moderators of this forum could create a "Benny Archive" in his honor. I would certainly enjoy going back and reading the threads in which he contributed or initiated, and having a dedicated "read only" area would make that much easier.

I realize that he had well over 3000 posts, so this could very well be a very arduous and time consuming task.

Thoughts???

Well said Charlie B.

Re: Bennie Ray Palmer

thanks Charlie - that was a very well written and thoughtful statement you made in our behalf.

RE: The 'Bennie Archive' - as said, this would be a very arduous, time-consuming task. Any and all (as far as I know) of Bennie's comments/threads are now available with the existing search engine....all you have to do is enter 'Bennie' as the search criteria....I have often used this search process when looking up comments from some other of our members.

Re: Bennie Ray Palmer

Bennie sure had experiences that I (and most folks) will never have. I hope his stories and memories survive. I for sure will never think of a separately derived source, without thinking of him.

Re: Bennie Ray Palmer

Thank you, Mr. Beck, for your eloquent entry in Bennie's guest book on behalf of this electronic community.

Do you, or does anyone reading this know what the address or phone number is for the Oregon Cancer Society? (I have had no luck finding it online.)

Thank You,

Sad news to start the day.

I suspect that the news of any donations will not make it back to the family, even if they are made in the name of the dearly departed. This is their generous, and anonymous, way of creating a small amount of good from their own loss, by encouraging others to help in the fight against the cause of their own loss. Any donation to any cancer society would likely answer the family?s request.

Re: Bennie Ray Palmer

I must say, Bennie seemed like one of the nicest guys on this site. He's helped me, and even once gave me a few compliments. All around gentlemen. God bless him....

His advice, and his care was phenomonal. Rest in peace Bennie, we will all miss you!! :(

Re: Bennie Ray Palmer

In response to -- peter d -- (Thoughts ???)

The Bennie Archive has my support also. I've been able to pass our members and Bennies posts on to many IBEW apprentices. Lets keep his electrical knowledge alive in the hearts of youth in the electrical field.
May this help Bennie rest in peace.
