I have 4 receptacles to install that I will need to insert into the routed out portion of wood framing.

Is there a good box made for this? I'd like it to be able to hold two 12-2's and a standard receptacle. There is very little wiggle room so I don't think I can fit a 4square metal box w/ mud ring

I've always been able to get a 4 square box in. Have you looked at single gang masonry boxes that are used to cut in brick and masonry? How about a deep jem box without a bracket?

I would use a deep, single-gang, steel, old-work box, because the metal is thinner than plastic.

Hint: I always re-adjust the mounting ears so the edge of the box is slightly recessed in the wall.
