The last time I bought FR jeans and shirts the Carhartt products were made off shore and more expensive then US made products of the same type made from the same fabric. What I wear now is made of Indura UltraSoft, but I think the next time I will try Dupont's Protera fabric.

practically everything I wear now is carhart. You cant compare the quality of their stuff. And for boots I go Redwings all the way. Again you cant compare the quality.

You can buy UNION made carharrt clothes that are made in the good ol USA just look for the U in front of catalog # and here is a link to one place that sales that stuff. I buy most of my clothes here. http://www.midwestworkwear.com/catalog.html

What are some of your favorite brands of fire rated clothing?

There are only a handful of arc rated fabrics out there, they all have thier advantages and disadvantages, the right choice for you depends on your needs.

There are dozens of clothing manufactures that use these few fabrics to make FR clothing, some do a better job than others regarding quality and features, so going by "Brand name" desent mean much. 80% or so of the FR clothing out there is made from the exact same fabric.

Are you looking for daily wear or a coverall type you pull over your non melting clothing you wear everyday?

How often do you use it?

Are you exposed to any chemicals that can damage cotton based fabrics?

Do you need clean room applications?

How dirty and greasy do you expect them to get?

Do they need to be made in the USA?

Do they need to be union made?

What is your budget?

Are you looking to purchase or rent them?

How are you planning on handling landering?

Anything that is made from Indura Ultrasoft is in my opinion the most comfortable FR clothing, there really isn't a comparison.

That is what I use now, but it doesn't seem to wear very well...only lasting about half the time similar items of untreated cotton last. That is why I will try Protera the next time I buy any FR jeans or shirts.

It is pretty good, and your best material for the money. PBI is much better and more comfortable, and cost 4 times as much. The new Indura Interlock knits are the most comfortable daily wear, Tyndale (As someone mentioned) is a good source for those.

thanks!

thanks!

Thanks for your replies! When I read that on a average 5 to 10 people daily are now envolved in an arc flash, it makes you think about these things. I take it that the FR clothing is still not a replacement for the heavier protection that comes from the "bee suits". The FR clothing is just added under clothing protection. I need to read up more on this!!

What are your needs? I have done more material testing and research than most people in this industry (I know 2 people that have done more) and did PPE selection consultation for many companies over the last 15 years, I will be glad to help.
