Best termination method #4 THHN to 20A breaker

I have multiple sets of #4 THHN that terminates on 20A breakers. The max size conductor allowed on breaker terminal is #8. The wire is upsized to allow for #CCC (16 ) in EMT and VD (1%). Installation is for PV system using micro-inverters. Is it permissible to splice to #12 for termination to breaker ?

You can reduce the size at the breaker for this purpose

They make crimp reduce pins this looks better and its a better electrical connection if your going to install in a panel nice clean these come with a rubber boot .

You are correct. they make compression reducers. I have used them many times. just make sure you have to correct tool for crimping.
