I have some 1500# pull tape factory installed in HDPE conduit. i am pulling with a crane scale so I Can see the tension and it has broken 3 times between 600-700 pounds. All times it broke in free air, not at a knot or pulley or anything.

It's one thing when you knowingly push an item beyond it's intended capacity, but when it can't even perform to its rating, that...stinks. Sounds like a call to the supply house to me.

Yeah never skimping on the pull tape again. I mean granted we often dont know what the actual tension will be, but Im going way over my guess from now on. Its cool having this scale and knowing the actual tension.

And if you do a video, the supplier doesn't have many excuses.

Just checking, is the tape in free air all the way between the scale and the break point?

If not, and there's something else applying force to the pull tape, then the force at the break point (just before breaking) could be higher than the scale shows.

Cheers, Wayne

it interesting, all three times it broke about three feet after the scale, but well of clear of any knots or obstructions.

Does your scale have an over load counter. If so it may need to be recalibrated if has had an overload event or too many events.
