I am working on a bid for "oncall maintenance and repair services" for electrical of course. I am to quote hourly rate for JW and apprentice. Question, what year of apprentice do you quote??? Obvious answer is 4 or 5 year, but am I missing something here??? Dont really know what year or level experiance apprentice will be needed untill the job arrives....so....how would you guys quote this????

Right here.
Silly me, but I would call a 4th or 5th year apprentice a JW-level worker.
I agree. Think about pay level rather than what you actually classify the person. Whether a "real" journeyman or not, anyone making close to that wage is a journeyman for the purposes of your bid, I would say.

Well i was told to always think of the worst case scenerio with maintenance bidding. bid it choosing the highest level apprentice and JW rate. not to mention materials.

We have a couple of maintenance contracts.
I bill my JW at $68 / hr and my "apprentice" at $45 / hr.
The company requires a detailed list of what you did (that time will bill too...) and a detailed list of material... At contractor's list price of course!

Basically, my JW will go out, and if I need to send an apprentice out, I'll make sure that I send someone good. It really does not matter who you will send out. Just cover your highest paid apprentice if he needs to go out. You can't tell who will go... at least not right now.

Remember that people come and go, and you may still have that contract.
I also specified that my rates were for 2008... That way, in 2009, things can change.
