I'm bidding on a custom built new house that has about 200 recessed fixtures on the plan. I know the builder and I know this house will be built "cheap and dirty". So, I plan to use some HD LED trims in some areas but many of the mfr's have labels in their cans that indicate using their trims only. Would an EI be in the right to tag me for using these trims indicating a violation of mfr's recommendations ? I was under the impression that mfr's label them to insure more sales of their trims but they are usually much more expensive than the knock-off trims.

I use the ecosmart from the depot and have never been questioned . I typically use Juno housing but their trims are $30 vs the $7 I pay for the ecosmart

My thinking was, just like an air conditioner for a generator, as long as it's wired correctly and working properly, why should The EI be concerned?

Probably not. Hope you're not planning on using LT56's.

I am not familiar with that model. Who makes it?

Halo. Tho no pics show it, they have an EGC that has to be tapped into the can housing (110.3(B), 250...). Not a huge deal, but considering how easy every other trim in existence is to install, it's unnecessary and highly aggravating. x200.

Understood. Thanks for the heads up.

You're welcome. I bring them up because they are an HD staple for can lights. The 4" ones dont have it (apparently the fingers on those is suitable or they are double insulated). They are fairly inexpensive, so if you go with them, budget a few extra hours for your helper to ground all the trims. The instructions also mention squat about the enclosed gasket, and those aren't installed on the lights either, so if you need to put them on, figure another few hours for that many lights.
