We installed about 400 of these in an ongoing high end project in NYC and now we getting many complains about chirping. At first we blamed it on batteries and building's handyman for using cheep ones and not what is recommended by the manufacturer. That didn't do any good as after they started using good batteries same thing happens in a very short time. It seems they drain the batteries very fast.
Couple of months ago we end up changing specs and switched to different brand (as per engineers blessing)...but I still have to deal with the problematic brand and it is going out of hand with wasted time /$$ ....we are still responsible for the units under warranty :(:( ..... Does anybody else have the same issue with this brand/model? How should I deal with this -I can't return to the supply house if they are not officially on the recall and, at the same time can't pretend there is nothing wrong with them. Any advise is appreciated.

Are they designed to use AC power when available and rely on the batteries only when AC is down?
If so they may miswired so that they are running constantly on battery?
