I see alot of STVs with blatant violations after alot of work was already done....I was wondering how much re work people have had to do to fix these problems?

Some will scoff - but the NEC is adopted and often with amendments in local codes - still a duty to check them....

While on lunch one day some time ago I walked by a restaurant TI that someone else was doing across the street - noticed that the EC was using NM in a commercial location - not allowed by local codes - so I told him. And was ignored... I went so far as to copy that part of the code and stick it in his windshield - hoping to save the guy and his crew the embarrassment.

A few weeks later - the guy was done, and there was another EC in there demo'ing out thousands of feet of NM and re-wiring the whole place. I don't think the original guy even got to recycle the wire he put in.

Serves him right. Hope customer put ding on his license as well. This cost customer time as well.

One of my inspections (a multibuilding property -15 bldgs) resulted in corrections that cost the property owner $1,300,000.00 - which took them 18 months to complete.

I am on a project as we speak, the corrections most likely will cost close to the same figure.

These types of inspections wind up going through many engineers/attorneys court time. The results so far have been - "make the corrections"

Obviously these are not your typical stapling issues.;)

I'd like to see pictures of That

You know if they're genuine.........

Was involved in a job (12 story apartment building) were an EC used varying sizes of EMT for butt splicing conductors and for making taps in riser panels, such as a number s tapped from a 4/0 feed through riser. After a few fires the occupied building was shut down tenants moved out and feeders replaced with proper terminations. Does that count?
