I was wondering on average how many billable hours a week you guys get. Please include if you do flat rate service(or small bid jobs around 2 days long) or T&M. commercial, residential, industrial, or communications.

On service work it about 50% if all goes well, on scheduled jobs, contract work, we average 6 for every 8hrs, residential and commercial.

We're a small company. 3 JWs + 3 APPs + Me + Wife. If I get over 60% billable out of my men in the field I'm not complaining. As for me, I'm lucky to sqeeze in a few service calls during the week, I maybe will gross $500-$1000 on a good week. My motto is, 'when I strap on the tool belt, I'm probably loosing money.' My job is to keep the rest of the crew busy, supplied with parts, and deal with the problems.

all my hours are billed for just dont bill much for my estimates or when i knock off early to mow my lawn or when i stop and eat but i figure all my time into each job it may come to 8 or 10 dollars an hour, but i like to get paid when i sleep too if you dont figure all things in you will lose money you dont just spend money while you work so figure all your time. i had an agurment with my wife and promptly went to my computer and changed a price on a job to cover me being mad.

he meant gross...but what he personally bills for his time....

Correct. I am actually an "overhead employee" meaning that I don't usually work with the tools day in & day out. I drive a small service truck and do estimates, deliver materials to jobs, solve problems and generally try to keep everyone moving. I will do service calls (if the weather is nice:D ) and trouble calls after hours which is where the $500-$1000 comes in. It's basically my "mad money". I can get really mad some days.:)
