Anyone heard of this before? Here in the Dallas area, parrots, yes parrots, are building huge communal nests in some of the substations. The poco is forced to remove them, but some of the neighbors do not understand. One fellow said he was going to change his electric provider. Of course, the power comes through the same substation.

Re: Bird Nests:

A recent story in The Virginian Pilot detailed parrots nesting on a pole mounted transformer in Norfolk and an ensuing fire. The article did not directly state that the nest was the cause of the fire. Utility workers destroyed the parrots' attempt to rebuild the nest. A big hue and cry was raised in the neighborhood and the utility relented and the parrots are happily back at home with their transformer. :D

Re: Bird Nests:

We had a nest on a transformer with some parrots and the utility crew gave the transformer and some of the pole to the zoo

Everyime I click on this topic I keep expecting to see someone complaining about messy wiring, not real bird's nests. :p The POCO doesn't have any kind of devices or anything to keep them out?
