Does anyone know of a place where you can buy MC cable with a black sheath. We have to pre-paint our MC cable on a job we're doing.

Why, how, uh... I'm puzzled.

How did you get a job where the EC must paint the MC cable? I've never heard of such a thing.

It's and existing job that we did as new construction. After we finished, all ceiling material was painted black. We are now doing some additions to the existing job. We can't paint inside the finished building (restaurant)so, MC, strut, etc. must be painted before installation. I'm not talking about a great deal of it. Probably no more than 1 roll.

I'd march that one roll and whatever Kindorf stuff over to your local housepainter with instructions to "paint it black". This is getting to be their slow time of the year.

AFC makes type AC cable in BLACK.

MD, if you never heard about painting conduits in place let me tell ya about it. I did a 5 year long project with many miles of grc conduit to install as part of the job. The project spec stated that we had to paint a specified number of coats on all to match the surrounding exisiting colors. This was a very large security access control job, I guess they felt that it would increase security to paint the stuff. Anyway I had to have 2 or 3 painters on my payroll for the whole 5 years.

Wasn't that a Rolling Stones song?

Yep, that was a Nanker Phelge classic:

I see some MC and I want to paint it black
No silver any more I want it to be black
I see the journeypeeps install their shiny coils
I have to turn my head until the glare is gone
(etc)

Sorry, not enough coffee yet. :)

we do a bunch of retail work (MACs, etc) Almost all of them specify painted conduit. I have a few hundred feet of white 3/4" EMT in the shop for a project we are doing right now.

Some music, some paint fumes, hey it's a party.

I don't find this all that unusual. Many projects I have worked on over the years have called out a specific calor for conduit to be painted, and it was in the EC's scope. No reason they can't hire a painter to do it though.

One hint though. It is often much more cost effective to paint the conduit before you install it and just touch it up once it is in place.
