I'm having to change the meter layout of a multifamily project due to updated utility guidelines. 400A meter paks are in short supply still, however I found one available out of state that has 2 more sockets than we need. Spoke with utility planner and he says we can blank glass unused meter sockets. I have not run into this exact scenario before. Is that pretty standard? I'm assuming the utility has the final say on that since it's utility controlled equipment?
I was told directly by the planner that because of the state and utility changes the standards department no longer answers questions regarding setup or alternatives. Apparently they were overwhelmed with too many requests for clarifications on guideline interpretations so they now basically say everyone has access to the standards guide and has to figure it out themselves. Problem is, of course, there are many sections that can be read multiple ways not to mention the fact that there are many items that are not even addressed at all. It's absolutely stupid how unhelpful that attitude is.
That being the case, I'm hesitant to just take his verbal word on it, only to be flagged by their inspector.
