blank plate

have you ever looked at a 1900 or 11b blank plate, one side is marked "under side". I wonder why this is so, both sides seem identical.

What brand?? I just looked at the ones we have and there is nothing on them. I belive these are Steel City.

I think it has something to do with the mounting terminal "ears". If the plate is out on upside-down, the plate will have a tendency of working its way off the screw while being torqued. This is only a guess. Contact the manufacturer?

Correct, if you can see the words it is backwards... the cover will fall off if the screws become loose on a vertically mounted box.
