i sat down with the blue book salesman today, and the short version is,
it's $140 a month to be able to access the bids online, and have a itty
bitty ad in their blue book....

now, the $140 question.... is it worth it? who among you is using blue
book, and is it worthwhile?

thanks...

I'm in line on this thread too. I've been asking myself that question. I thought there was a portal in the online blue book where you could get free access to GCs who were requesting bids, but I couldn't get access to it. All I got was BB rep calling me to sell me a listing.

In Colorado, I do not have to advertise to get access to BBid...

Granted, my access is limited... and I don't get preferred treatment, but I don't need it. I still get 3-4 invitations to bid (ITBs) a week.

Advertisers get full complete access, with unlimited searching... I get limited access, and no searching. When ITBs come to me, I then have a chance to look at the job.

Personally, I think $140 / month is not bad... IF you are going to be bidding like crazy...

Rarely, I'll get 2 ITBs for the same job...

But when I get onsite, and I do a walk through with the GC, I talk to them, and they add me to their "preferred" contractor list... and I now get every ITB from 3 or 4 contractors... so... these are the guys I want to work with... And if it keeps jobs coming, then I'm ok with it.

So, I'd say to go for the free line that you get in the book. Go to their website, get all your information updated... and in no time, you'll be receiving ITBs.

I am asking a simular question in another thread. maybe these guys are hurting for EC since so many have been folding lately.

Possibly... but your local rep ONLY makes money if he sells advertisements.

So, he's going to push you to buy an ad.
My rep called me 2 months ago asking again... I told him that I wasn't interested. It was that simple.

Greg-
Do you have a free listing in the BB? Because when i tried to get in on the free online ITB section nothing happened. Maybe you could explain what to do to get into that free ITB portal. Thanks

I had a BB in my office for years and never opened it, finally tossed it after the last thread we had on the topic. If others out there are like me your fee would basically be a lost cause. Just my $.02
