Is a panel allowed to be located ON a "Non Floating" boat dock?

Article 555.1 doesn't cover this since it is for a dwelling. I don't have a NFPA 303-2000 !
Is there another NEC reference to this?

Re: Boat Dock Panel?

Just a small plastic outdoor panel with 3 breakers, 1 for a boat lift, 1 for lights, 1 for outlets.

The dock is "Fixed" not floating.

Hmmm...good question. I know I've seen pedestals with breakers in them mounted on docks, and I don't believe they had ground rods.

Yes , the company that I worked for use to repair a floating dock every winter...there were weather-proof panels and J-boxes on the floating dock. Every winter, the scrap thieves would take all of the 500-MCM out of the conduit and sell it for scrap. There were about 8 docks. Each were 100ft long. 4wire+grd. I don't know how much $$ that they made but for 5yrs straight they would take the wire. The company would charge the city of Detroit about $20K to repair the problem. The kicker is: A year round security guard would cost $30k-$35K. So it was cheaper to let the thieves steal it and then pay us to repair it. This was back in the 1990's.

Re: Boat Dock Panel?

555.7 Location of Service Equiptment. The service equiptment for floating docks or marinas shall be located adjacent to, but not on or in the floating structure.

555.1 ...Private, noncomercial docking facilities constructed or occupied for the use of the owner or resident of the associated single family dwelling are not covered by this article.
FPN: See NFPA 303-2000

This is a "fixed" dock on a single family dwelling.

Is anyone familiar with the NFPA-303 Article that covers this or any other NEC articles that would address this?
