Re: boats and lightning

If it is an open boat, then they are both equally unsafe.

If it is an enclosed (i.e. cabin) boat then they are probably equally safe. Each has it's own disadvantages, but overall they should be similar.

Question: why do most people think lighting is attracted to metal? The stupidest thing I've heard of is - fused shafts on golf umbrellas.

Re: boats and lightning

he he he anyway metal boat have little better degree of protction than wooden boat BUT the weak link is commuation attenta ( sorry for spelling ) and yeah i got hit by lighting on my tugboat and yeah it is hevey steel hulled boat and blew my radio and few other items out and my freind have wooden boat and he got blasted by lighting also blew the radio and few other stuff including knock the engine off line ( it was gas driven) my is large diesel engine driven but no matter how good you get it ground it will show up anyway and in open water the highest point will be anything that can attched it. that why everytime the storm come you can see alot of small boat go shore fast due risk of getting hit of lighting
