boatyard wiring design

Hey guys. Could use some help. I am reading that all the ungrounded conductors for a boatyard are required to be GFCI protected, and I certainly understand why. However, Customer has an air pump motor, and from the inrush trying to start it, trips the GFCI breaker. I can bench test it and it will start in the shop where I have a GFCI receptacle. Distance from OCP to dock is around 110-120 feet. Any thoughts? Thnx in advanced. Steve

I'd guess this is de-icing equipment?
What happens if you move the pump onto land and run longer air lines? Does the pump have enough power to pump the air that distance?

Thnx for the input Gents. I think that I will string it out on the surface and test it. May have another neutral in the mix. Trying to rid the original wiring. Moving the pump a possibility as well.

Thanks again!

Don, I keep wanting to go to 555.19(B)(1). This pump motor is not shore power. I am also reading that in the scope 555.1 that this Article does not apply to "Private, noncommercial docking facilities constructed or occupied for the use of the owner or residents of the associated single family dwelling are not covered by this article."

Where does one go then?

thnx,

Steve
