They are not required, but are easy way to comply in certain conditions like bonding around concentric and eccentric KO's.
Metallic raceways containing servcie conductors always require method other than standard locknuts to bond the raceway. Bonding bushing one of most common methods used though.
One could use a pipe bonding clamp on the external portion of the raceway, bonding bushing is most preferred though.
Many eccentric KO's listed to not need additional bonding, some do it anyway or worse yet, some inspectors think it is always needed, even if you can show them it is not.
