Re: Bonding gas lines

Your answer can be found in section 250.104(B) The bonding jumper are sized per 250.122 or the EGC for the circuit that is likely to energize the gas pipe is permitted to serve as the bonding means.

Re: Bonding gas lines

Ok the largest breaker in this house would be the AC comp and is next to where the gas line enters building.Or i could bond from air handler that is next to the gas water heater.Just looks like an easy way out if legal

Re: Bonding gas lines

Jim are any of those items connected to the gas line?

If not it is hard to say they are 'likely' to energize it.

If the gas line is connected to electric appliance then that appliance may energize that gas line however the rules allow the EGC to that appliance to be the gas line bond.

Re: Bonding gas lines

It is not required to bond to the gas piping system unless it is likely to be energized. Only then is bonding required by the circuit that is likely to energize it. If a gas line is going to a gas furnace, the circuit that feeds and bonds the furnace is also bonding the gas line. The same applies to all the gas appliances.

If you feel squirrelly about it, why not size a conductor using 250.66 and bond the gas piping system? That is big time overkill but you may feel better. :D

Re: Bonding gas lines

situation is this.Propane water heater thar has 120 volt direct connection and range that plugs in for igniter and a fire place.Problem is my rough is finished but gas lines not ran yet. This could hold up the inspection.I was thinking if i could tap the AC disc that has a ground wire from 6-2 romex then i could do this on final.

Re: Bonding gas lines

I hope so but here most seem to want more.My boss wants to go over kill and run #4 to the input of the line. This is an important contractor,so everything was 12-2 up graded.

Re: Bonding gas lines

What i was after is passing without any problems. And i did just that today. Thanks to Allen Waynes phone call everything went perfect not even a slight peep.Do to this job being way way way out in never lands my orders were to get it passed at any cost.Yes i went over kill.Down here pushing the limit can earn you a pissed off inspector and if he wanted too he could have found something.Look at the bottom line.Reinspects not only cost money but time and material.I walked it thru in less than 10 minutes. :) :) :) Hopefully we will never do another house. It served as a reminder why i hate residential.15 pages and 30 hours of extras.Back on commercial in morning :D
