Generally the NEC requires anything that is likely to be energized to be bonded.

Once you tie an electric appliance to the gas line it might get energized.

The NEC will allow the EGC of that appliance to bond the gas pipping.

Check out 250.104(B) for the actual wording.

From other posts here on this forum it seems many inspectors ask for more than what is required by the NEC as far as gas pipe bonding. :roll:
