bonding/grounding steel floors

Plate steel was installed over existing wooden floors in the factory I work at. I could not find any code articles about bonding/ grounding for this situation. Should This be handled as if it were grounding/ bonding building structural steel and or non electrical eqipment? doug.yehle@techindustries.com

Hello Doug,

Lets say you had a concrete floor in the ground floor of a building in contact with the earth, you would not purposely bond that. But... I think this is different, I can see you are concerned as I would be.

250.4(A)(4) Bonding of Electrically Conductive Materials and Other Equipment. (2002 NEC)

I would reference this section if anybody should ask why you would want to do such a 'silly thing'.

Is the steel plating "likely to become energized"? If so bond it.

The floor is probably grounded if there is any machines mounted on it.

If there is any sensitive systems, you have one good ground plane.
