Bonding of pool pumps

I am a pool contractor in Mesa, Arizona and when installing/replacing a pool pump to an existing pool, the question came up concerning the pool pump bonding wire depth. We used a solid #8 AWG, but what is the required depth per the NEC code if any? And where could i find the answer to show the code? It has been stated that it must be 12" deep, and that is the first time i have heard of that. Your help with this question would be greatly appreciated!

Article 680.26 is for the equipotential bond. If you mean the epb for the lights, pumps and all metal then there is no required depth however the perimeter bond needs to be 4-6" below subgrade.
