Is it really necesary to bond the metal underground water pipe? Isnt this used in case you only want to drive on rod and then you use water line?I want to drive 2 rods and skip the water pipe(that is a 100ft away and paper thin)

No. It is required to use the underground metal pipe as a grounding electrode. It is required to bond interior piping if there is no metal piping grounding electrode present, as defined in 250.52(A)(1).

It's required to use every electrode present at the structure. 250.50.
