Boom

Lotta heat! Looks like a bunch of the damage was long term. What was the setting?

This was in a cargo building with 277V Mercury Lighting. Breaker was used as a switch. Years go by and... Boom. Luckily, no one was around.

Woof!

Although, I do like a nice fireworks display. Pretty lights and all . . .

:D

If you look close you will see they are bolt on breakers and they have no screws into the bussing. That makes alot of heat. OUCH

My guess would be that the breaker to bus connection screws were never tightened or they were over tightened and stripped.

I must be twisted because I love to see blown up stuff

Some from my collection. I wish I had them all documented.

They look like GE TEY breakers to me. They are available with a 277/480 volt rating.
After a closer look I think I am incorrect. They are not long enough to be TEYs. They really look like a THQB, but I don't think that is available for 277.

In the photo, the third on the left at the bottom, what is the addition tab of Copper, it seems out of place! I don't know!

What grit sand paper are you going to use to clean up the bus.

You would be surprised how often this comes up at our shop. Seems it has been the standard buss clean up method at our shop for years. (before I got there)

110.12(B) Integrity of Electrical Equipment and Connections.

Internal parts of electrical equipment, including busbars, wiring terminals, insulators, and other surfaces, shall not be damaged or contaminated by foreign materials such as paint, plaster, cleaners, abrasives, or corrosive residues. There shall be no damaged parts that may adversely affect safe operation or mechanical strength of the equipment such as parts that are broken; bent; cut; or deteriorated by corrosion, chemical action, or overheating.

They sure look like THQB's to me. Hard to believe they were operating at 277/480 volts if they were, but I guess anything is possible.
