I don't know if this is really much of a deal or not, but a fax passed by me today from Ferguson.

Bosch has trucks passing through the Chicago/Northern Illinois area with some deals.

The deal I thought was pretty cool was a $529 cordless 18V 4 pc combo set comes free if you buy $500 worth of tools, PLUS a free cordless jigsaw.

Includes free lunch.

I checked some of the deal specials against internet sources and they seemed pretty good. Now if I wanted rellay nice power tools, I might just go get me some next week.

Re: Bosch tool sale

My sister lives in northern Illinois. Perhaps I should give her a call. Then again, my stepbrother's wife is an engineer at Bosch. For some reason, I still buy all my Bosch tools at the hardware store.

Re: Bosch tool sale

menards has a deal on a set of coleman 18v cordless power tools. the price is right but I have never used this brand before.

just looking at them gives me the impression they are a pretty decent HO grade type of tool. does anyone have any experience with this brand?

Re: Bosch tool sale

Menards is the only store I know that carries that brand. The hardware store with the huge selection where I buy most of my tools doesn't carry it, nor do the electrical supply houses I use. That's my first clue that you're going to get what you pay for, if you're lucky.

They might be worthwhile if you're just going to be doing limited light-duty stuff (e.g., hanging picture frames), but if you have any plans to do anything more, don't waste your money on tools that aren't up to the task.

I've used cheap tools in the past, and I learned my lesson. Good tools cost real money, and they are worth it.

Re: Bosch tool sale

i have an old makita 9.2V drill I bought at least 10 years ago that still works pretty well. he batteries are starting to go though and I was thinking about going to a 18 or 24V unit.

but I hate to spend $200 on a drill I will use a couple times a month.

I get more use out of my little battery powered skill screwdriver anyway. works really well for basic screwdriving and only cost $20. if it dies I can afford a new one.

i do not use them a lot so it does not make a whole lot of sense for me to wpend a lot of money and buy the highest quality tools when a much lower grade will work quite adequately for my needs.

if I relied on them to make a living, and used them all day every day, it would be a different story.

Re: Bosch tool sale

Bosch has a new battery charger out that monitors the temp of the battery and allows charging in 30 minutes, it has cooling rods built into the battery.
I have a makita drill with nickel metal hydride batteries and they are much much better than ni-cad.

Re: Bosch tool sale

i had thought about buying some of the new batteries for my makita but they won't work in my old chargers.

by the time i got done buying new batteries and chargers, i could buy a whole new set of tools.
