Trying to determine where the boundaries of class 1 hazardous locations start/end. Need to price service and controls to an outdoor fuel processing plant where above ground fuel tanks and equipment for the transfer/mixing of fuel takes place. This equipment is located approx. 50' from where electrical service and controls are to be installed. Does the gear & install need to be explosion proof?

NEC 500.4(A) & (B) along with 500.5 will give you some guidance in gaining assistance as to area classification. Check with the project engineer.
