Which boxes are best to use with siding blocking. (Unlike siders who don't use boxes and just screw fixture to the blocking)
I've seen and used regular round boxes or pancakes. But I'm thinking although it's under the siding it's still a wet area. I've also cut in old work boxes flush with the block or flush with the wood sheathing and installed plastic extension rings. Is there an approved box for that one inch or so area between the wood sheathing of a house and the face of the vinyl siding blocking?

For both fixture and receptacle applications.

Thank you

Inside the siding and wall is not a wet location, standard boxes are fine.

I always used a metal, 4" octagon box and cut them in with a 4-1/8" hole saw.

What stinks about the blocks the siding companies send out is there never is a standard outlet box that fits without some sort of fabricating needing done. Why can't they at least make them 1-1/2 deep so that a standard octagon will fit flush inside them?

I still prefer the Arlington units with integral J box.
