Just wondering if you guys use boxhangers. If so what type. Picture frames or the caddy bar style? Also how do you guys bond 4sq boxes. Do you buy the ground screw with pigtail or is it a green helper with a roll of green wire and ground screws? What about mc cable do you guys believe in colorado jims? or some other method for several mcs coming down one stud? Thanks guys

Re: box hangers

I often use either a bare or green helper to make up pigtails. :D No, seriously, it depends on how time is. The price of premade pigtails is obscene, in my opinion. Often I buy them anyhow, but if someone has a little down time, they can make a pile of them in a hurry. If you use solid, you can form the hook around the ground screw tightly enough that you won't lose the ground screw.

I like the "picture frame" style of 4x4 hanger, but I've used just about everything. The picture frame style hangers are much cheaper than buying bracket boxes. For securing the MC, I've used the Colorado Jim's mostly, but I've also used a zip tie tek screwed to the stud and zip tie the bundle loosely in the middle of the stud. I've had installations pass in which a single MC cable was black taped around the stud, securing the MC cable in the middle.

Re: box hangers

I use both styles of bracets. The picture frames for single boxes and the bar style "gun brackets" for multiple boxes. I now you can get the frame style for two or three boxes, but using the gun barackets cuts down on the number of different parts I have to stock/order.

As for box bonding, I find EMT does that nicely. :D But, when the need arises, I use premade tails. Usually the standard screw and tail when bonding to an EGC, and the screw, tail and fork terminal variety when bonding devices to the box (as is required when a garvin cover is used.)

"Wouldn't that be considered sexual harassment to require the helper to be bare? "

Depends on where the job is.Pasco county is the nudist capital of the world. So if the job is at a nudist resort it might be required :D :D

Re: box hangers

Do box hangers need a listing?. I used to allways just drag a bundle of treated 1"x 3" lumber and a chop saw onto the job. Screw the lumber between studs for a back brace. The braces went up pretty quick. 1" x 3" is stil fairly cheap.

I hope not. Then we'd be required to nail on plastic boxes to listed 2x4's. :D
