If a location falls under "Damp" per the following definition.

Location, Damp. Locations protected from weather and
not subject to saturation with water or other liquids but
subject to moderate degrees of moisture. Examples of such
locations include partially protected locations under canopies,
marquees, roofed open porches, and like locations,
and interior locations subject to moderate degrees of moisture,
such as some basements, some barns, and some coldstorage
warehouses.

Do you usually use a weather proof box or just use the galvanized steel? Are weather proof only required for wet locations I can't find the clarification in the NEC? Wiring would be THWN in EMT.

I even have a hard time with this. I tend to lean towards "no real difference between damp and wet", but take a look at a 4' strip light that's rated for a damp location and it doesn't look any different than the one you would hang in your garage.

So if you installed a 4/s box under a patio cover is it really going to matter, but then if it get's foggy in your area, is fog wet or damp?
