When sizing a box for conductors #4 or larger, you need to have 6 to 8 times the conduit diameter plus the diameters of any other conduits on the opposite wall. Do you have to include the diameters of those other conduits if they only have smaller conductors? I'm thinking if you have a junction box with a lot of small conduits for small circuits but then you go add one large one for #4 or larger conductors the box would need to be huge. But all the #14 or #12 wires in the smaller conduits don't really get in the way.

If your just adding a conduit, the existing box would need to comply with 314.28 with enough room to add the new conduit. Chances are if it is an existing box with small wires it will be a gutter. More than likely in this instance when adding additional circuits, you just set a box for your new conduit and go on:thumbsup:, sometimes you will find an existing box big enough:happyyes:, usually though it is in the wrong place:happyno:.
