Boxes in plenum ceiling

Am I making this up or do you not need to use plenum boxes in a plenum ceiling anymore? Thanks for the help.

What are you calling a plenum box? Are you using a cable, and want to splice it?

The way I read 300.22(C)(3) is that only the non-metallic boxes need to be rated and any metallic box is fine. Am I reading it correctly?

My understanding is that in under Chicago code you still need it but for NEC any box is fine.

As far as I know the only requirement for "plenum" boxes and "plenum" flex is found in the Chicago City Code and in some of the suburban codes in that area. There is no such requirement in the NEC.
